Upgrading from the Embarcadero Edition
The Embarcadero Edition of the Appercept AWS SDK for Delphi is no longer available through GetIt and is no longer receiving updates. The SDK is now available directly from Appercept with ongoing updates, new services, and direct support. Here is what you've been missing and how to upgrade.
What has changed since the Embarcadero Edition?
Does it support RAD Studio 13 Florence?
The Embarcadero Edition (provided by Embarcadero for RAD Studio 11 and 12) does not support RAD Studio 13, or the new 64-bit IDE. If you are upgrading your IDE, you will need to upgrade to a Standard or Professional license from Appercept.
What new AWS services have been added?
Since the Embarcadero Edition, the following AWS services have been added:
- AWS IAM Identity Center including SSO Portal, SSO-OIDC, and Identity Store for enterprise single sign-on
- AWS Account Management for programmatic account operations
- SSO credential resolution so your applications can assume roles and retrieve AWS credentials through IAM Identity Center
Have existing services been updated?
Yes. Several services have been upgraded to match changes made by AWS:
- Amazon SQS upgraded to the JSON protocol, matching AWS's own migration away from the legacy XML format
- Amazon SES v2 updated with latest features and revised data structures
- Service-specific endpoint configuration for custom and regional setups
What other improvements have been made?
The core SDK has had several improvements since the Embarcadero Edition:
- Faster credential resolution
- Support for nested values in AWS config files
- Improved JSON serialization
- Improved handling of S3 Put operations
- Ongoing Delphi 11.x and 12.x compatibility fixes
What about support?
Support for the Embarcadero Edition was provided by Embarcadero. With that edition discontinued, there is no active support channel for it. Standard and Professional licenses purchased from Appercept include direct support from the developers who build the SDK.
Which edition is right for you?
Both editions include everything the Embarcadero Edition had, plus all the updates listed above. The Professional edition also includes full source code and priority support. Purchase directly from Appercept and you'll have access to the latest version straight away.
